Atlas Orthogonal Adjustments

Atlas Orthogonal (AO) adjusting is a little-known chiropractic procedure that can relieve or completely eliminate hundreds of different kinds of conditions by correcting the position of the top vertebrae of the spine, the atlas.

Due to the atlas’s close proximity to the brain stem, if it has moved out of position even a fraction of a degree, two very serious things can happen – 1) improper / restricted nerve flow and 2) misalignment / imbalance of the body.

Because the atlas is the top bone of the spine, if it is rotated out of position, it can twist your entire spinal structure, including the pelvis so that your whole body is off balance.

The doctor knows that putting the atlas back into proper position can enable the entire spine and pelvis to correct on their own. Body balance is restored and cord compression removed. This enables healing to begin flowing from head to toe.

Unlike other types of chiropractic the AO procedure feels like a light tap at the side of the neck as the atlas is moved precisely back into its correct position. It is completely painless. There is no twisting or popping of the neck. Patients are often surprised how anti-climatic it is until, over a period of time, they feel their bodies beginning to heal.

The procedure itself cures nothing. It simply restores the body balance and proper nerve flow so that organs, limbs and tissues can resume normal functioning. This is why we see so many different conditions with no apparent commonality responding to the same procedure. See below for a list of conditions that have responded well to this type of health care.

In the initial consultation the doctor will determine if you are a candidate for atlas orthogonal care and if so, explain why correcting the position of the atlas is the cornerstone to the health of your entire body.

After the examination the doctor will take a set of pre AND post x-rays. The Atlas Orthogonal (AO) chiropractor will NEVER adjust you unless it is known exactly how to correct the atlas based upon information gathered from x-rays. When the atlas is in the correct position it is “Orthogonal”, which means at right angles – 90 degree, hence the term Atlas Orthogonal (AO) for this procedure.

Activator Adjustments

The Activator technique is another very LOW FORCE and gentle means of adjusting without causing any unnecessary strain or stress on the patient’s body. The Activator allows for direct adjustment to the place required with a preset amount of gentle force that is always in control.

There is a neurological loop, brain to body-body to brain. It is amazing the profound control the nervous system has over the body and how a displaced vertebra can interfere with that control, causing bodily dysfunction and pain.

With Activator treatment, we take the interference and pressure away, restoring balance to the spinal column and nervous system. This is possible through a system of analysis inherent in the protocol. Because of the accuracy involved, we know where to adjust, when to adjust, and when not to adjust. We analyze and measure our patient’s response to care and thus accurately manage spinal balance for their optimal health and recovery. The most important protocol in our office: Analysis- Accuracy- Results.

Cranial Adjustments

A cranial adjustment is performed when headache or migraine symptoms persist and are not responding to traditional treatment to the cervical spine. It also is performed on a child who has had a concussion and their reading ability has been affected or a child who’s speech is not on par with their peers

A cranial procedure consists of testing for any displacement of the several cranial plates in your skull that can become locked up with another plate resulting in increased pressure of cerebral spinal fluid. The cranial plates can become displaced due to several things such as a hit to the head, concussion, viral infection or illness.

Treatment consists of a very gentle adjustment to the displaced cranial plate. Test and re-test assures that the proper alignment has been made. Results can be amazingly fast and profound.

Spinal Decompression Therapy

Non-Operative Spinal Decompression is an effective, conservative treatment for patients who suffer from arthritis, non-specific spinal pain, failed spinal surgery, disc bulges, disc herniations, disc extrusions, spondylolisthesis, atypical migraines and injuries from car accidents.

A decompression treatment slowly and gently lengthens or releases pressure in the spine through repetitive movements by a customized treatment table. Seven sensors in the table continually monitor the patient to ensure a pressure change within the intervertebral disc, surrounding soft tissue and joints. This pressure change allows the disc bulges or herniations and nutrients to be pulled back into the disc. Rehydration of the disc and surrounding structures creates a physiological change that assists the body’s natural healing process. Patients typically experience significant improvement within 20-25 treatments. Research suggests that continued improvement is seen up to four years following decompression treatment program.

“I was experiencing severe lower back pain. An MRI revealed a synovial cyst between L4 and L5. Surgery was recommended by an orthopedic doctor and by a neurosurgeon. The thought of cutting a hole in my spine to remove the cyst was not a viable option for me.

In investigating non-surgical treatments for a lumbar synovial cyst, I found several articles on spinal decompression and was very interested in trying it. Just about that time, I was elated to find out that Dr. Danene Saggau, my Chiropractor of 20 years, had just acquired a decompression table in her office.

I jumped at the chance to try it and have had excellent results. I am receiving decompression on my neck in addition to my back. So far I have actually gained an inch back of the 2 inches that I had shrunk. I have seen a 100% improvement in the pain that I was experiencing in my back and neck.

I would highly recommend this treatment to anyone who is a candidate for it. I am so happy that I did!”

Laser Pain Relief

Cold low level laser therapy is a special, state-of-the-art treatment that can be used to help speed the recovery of so many tissues and joints in the body. Most people think us chiropractors as only “back doctors”. Patients in our office quickly learn we love to help you feel better in all areas, including those in your upper and lower extremities. Shoulders, elbows, knees, even toes… all of these areas can be misaligned, and we can help you with any of them.

Laser therapy uses infrared light to reduce pain levels and heal tissues that have been damaged. It can be used to speed up the recovery of sprained ligaments in the neck after a car accident, or to help resolve that tennis elbow that’s been bugging you lately. It also helps with disc problems in the spine – if you’ve had pain that travels down your arm or leg, or have been diagnosed with a “bulging disc,” the laser will aid in a quicker recovery from such an injury.

Laser therapy works in two ways. First, it helps to reduce inflammation in the area where it’s applied. Inflammation is the primary cause of pain in your body, and results from an increase in blood flow to a particular area of the body. When inflammation decreases, so does pain! Secondly, the light from the laser safely penetrates your skin to affect an injured area on a cellular level. It stimulates the cells’ powerhouses, called mitochondria, and boosts energy so that repairs can be made on that microscopic level. This leads to faster healing time with any tissue, whether it’s muscular strain, a ligament sprain (like a twisted ankle), a skin condition that could use a boost, or even a broken bone! If you or anyone you know has been having pain or problems in their shoulder, wrist, ankle, or somewhere you might not initially think a chiropractor could help, remember that we can help you get out of pain, even if your back or neck aren’t involved!

Chiropractic Massage

Chiropractic massage therapy is utilized to help patients who suffer with muscle spasms and pain. A deep vibration helps the muscles relax, sets the nerves back to neutral so they don’t send their pain signals and increases circulation which speeds up healing time.

Immune System Adjustments

Your body’s own natural defenses are the best for healing itself, but sometimes it needs a boost. That is where an immune system adjustment comes in. By stimulating certain meridian points in the body, we can help people boost their immune system and naturally fight off the symptoms of a cold or the flu. In addition, we can help those patients who are immune suppressed stay healthy and avoid getting sick in the first place.

Pediatric Adjustments

Pediatric adjustments are adjustments specifically designed for children. Different techniques are employed to account for their developing spines. We commonly see children suffering with colic, chronic ear infections, scoliosis, headaches, sports injuries and post-concussion.

Extremity Adjustments

Extremity adjustments are done for the shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, hips, knees, ankles and toes to help with a myriad of complaints such as carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, sprained and painful joints.

Equalizer Technique

Unlike many chiropractic methods, equalizer technique is a light-forced system, designed to detect and correct nerve interference with the least amount of discomfort to even the most sensitive patient.  The equalizer is a unique hand held, percussion instrument used for delicate areas of the body such as for sinuses, or for boosting the immune system.  Those patients needing extremely gentle treatment such as babies and toddlers also respond extremely well to it.

There are many different types of chiropractic adjustments. Here are just a few that we offer. Each patient’s treatment is 100% individualized so these different methods may or may not pertain to your needs.
